Paid temporary public works – an employment for persons registered with the National Employment Agency, for the acquisition and maintenance of job skills in the performance of works of social benefit.

Temporary employment is carried out in non-profit municipalities, associations or foundations.

Paid temporary public works may be carried out by a person who:

  • is registered by the SEA as an unemployed person;
  • does not receive unemployment benefit;
  • seeks to acquire or maintain work skills.
  • belongs to at least one of the following target groups:
    • has a disability;
    • has a maximum of five years remaining until the age giving entitlement to an old-age pension;
    • has been unemployed for at least 36 months;
    • has served a sentence in prison or is on probation;
    • belonging to the Roma ethnic minority.

Duration of participation:

  • 4 months in a 24-month period

How to apply for a job

Register your willingness to join the ‘Paid Temporary Public Works’ Programme at your branch of the National Employment Agency.

How does it benefit the participant?

  • The participant maintains and develops job skills as well as social skills.
  • The participant receives monthly remuneration of EUR 300 for the performance of paid temporary public works.
  • If the participant has not performed the paid temporary public works on all days of the month in question, the municipality shall pay the remuneration in proportion to the days during which the participant worked.
  • Compulsory public social security contributions to pension insurance shall be paid to the participants in accordance with the legislation on compulsory social contributions from the general government funds and special public social security funds.
  • During the implementation of the Programme, insurance against potential accidents is taken out.

How does it benefit the employer?

  • Support for socially useful work.
  • Monthly compensation to a participant of temporary paid public works in the amount of EUR 300.
  • Monthly grant to one temporary paid public work coordinator in a municipality in the amount of EUR 100 in proportion to the working days worked.
  • Reimbursement of the costs of health examinations required by legislation for those engaged in temporary public works up to a maximum of EUR 50 per participant.
